Hawaii Skin Cancer and Photodamage Center offers the most advanced skin cancer and sun damage treatment available.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery - provides the highest cure rate of any skin cancer treatment (up to 99%) while removing the least amount of healthy tissue. During the procedure, Dr. Mott removes the skin cancer in thin layers. The tissue is carefully mapped and examined under the microscope. The process is repeated until all cancer cells are removed. The Mohs technique is particularly valuable for treating skin cancers located on the face, nose, ears, lips and near the eyes - areas where attaining the highest cure rate and conserving the maximum amount of normal tissue are extremely important.

Fotofacial Skin Rejuvenation with Intense Pulse Light - FotofacialTM utilizes intense pulse light (IPL) to reduce the visible signs of sun damage. Skin redenss, broken blood vessels, brown spots, freckles and skin texture improve in a series of "no downtime" treatments. Dr. Mott was personally trained to perform Fotofacials by Dr. Patrick Bitter Jr., the developer of the procedure. He and his stafff were one of the first facilities in Hawaii to offer FotofacialTM and IPL treatments, performing the procedures since 2002.

Thermage Radiofrequency skin tightening with Thermacool TC - The Thermage ® procedure is the only non-invasive treatment that produces tightening of the skin. The Thermacool device uses a sophisticated treatment tip with patented radiofrequency energy to uniformly heat the deeper collagen layers of the skin, producing collagen remodeling. Over time new collagen is produced further tightening the skin and resulting in smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. This incision-free procedure is fast, safe and easy, and requires no "downtime" from normal activities. The Hawaii Skin Cancer and Photodamage Center was the second facility in the State of Hawaii to offer Thermage treatment.

Botox - Botox Cosmetic® is a natural purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. Very small amounts of Botox are administered through several injections directly into the overactive muscles that cause lines to form when frowning and squinting. Botox works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the treated muscles, relaxing the skin and improving the appearance of wrinkles. Dr. Mott has been performing Botox treatments since 1998. He is a Botox Cosmetic Network Physician and is also a member of the Botox National Education Faculty (NEF), responsible for instructing other health professionals about the uses of the procedure.

Restylane - Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and fols, especially around the mouth region. Restylane is based on a natural substance that already exists in normal skin known as hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid maintains skin shape by holding water within the skin, resulting is a smooth, natural-appearing correction of wrinkles and folds. No allergy testing is necessary and treatments can be safely performed over a lunch hour with immediate results. Captique (r) is newer non-animal based hyalurinic acid product that is also available at our facility.

Collagen - Collagen is another available wrinkle "filler" to erase lines, fill furrows and enhance the definition of the lips. Collagen has been used as a cosmetic filler by dermatologists since 1975. Dr. Mott prefers to administer the synthetic human form of collagen, Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast, since allergy to this form of collagen is extremely rare and pre-testing is not necessary.

ALA-PDT Photodynamic Therapy for skin precancer and skin rejuvenation - Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) with topical amino levulanic acid (ALA) is a newer approach for treating sun damaged skin. ALA is a natural by-product of red blood cell metabolism. Normal cells are able to clear ALA and have minimal reaction whe exposed to certain types of light energy. Abnormal (sundamaged) cells are unable to metabolize ALA and become selectively eliminated with light exposure. ALA can be activated either by a 'blue light" that reduces the number of precancerous actinic keratoses of the skin or by intense pulse light (IPL) which also results in photorejuvenation of the skin. Hawaii Skin Cancer and Photodamage Center has been a leader in using ALA to treat sundamaged skin, including precancers and certain types of skin cancer.

Chemical Peels - Chemical Peels involve the application of various dilute glycolic acids, trichloracetic acid (TCA), and other chemicals to dissolve the outer layers of the skin. The resulting regenerated skin is usually smoother, less wrinkled and more even in color.

Laser Resurfacing - Laser resurfacing helps to improve wrinkles, certain scars, skin discoloration, sun damage, and skin texture by precisely removing very thin layers of skin in repeated passes with the laser. Skin rejuvenation with the erbium yag (Er:Yag) laser offers the advantages of reduced redness, decreased side efffects, and rapid healing compared to other resurfacing laser systems. It is preferred resurfacing laser for treating ethnic skin types.

Sclerotherapy leg vein treatment - Sclerotherapy is still considered the best overall treatment for removing spider veins and some varicose veins. A concentrated chemical solution is injected directly into the veins with a very small needle. The solution causes the veins to collapse and then close so that it is eventually absorbed by the body. Sclerotherapy generally requires multiple treatment sessions. One to three injections are usually required to effectively eliminate the vein. Post-treatment therapy includes wearing support stockings for two to three weeks following treatment.

Visia complexion analysis and UV photography - The VISIA Complexion Analysis System is an exciting and effective visual communication tool for skin rejuvenation patients. Three standardized, reproducable views are taken of patients undergoing various rejuveantion procdures. A sophisticated scanner determines skin attributes such as eveness, wrinkles, spots, pores, uv "sundamage" spots and porphyrins. This provides objective "before and after" documentation for many of our procedures and is included in the fee.
